Footwear
Most of the footwear from Kenai is composed of varoius types of synthetic leather, jute, organic canvas, hemp and other woven fabrics. The outsoles (that part which touches the ground) are composed of latex, manufactured rubber, recycled rubber tires and plastic.
Washing with a damp cloth or in some cases soap and water will take care of most required cleaning. Some materials, such as faux suede, require additional care on par with their leather counterparts. Specific cleaning requirements are listed with each product.
The outersoles should periodically be cleaned of all debris using a damp cloth or soap and water.
All footwear should be stored in a dry location away from direct heat sources.
Let all footwear dry completely away from direct heat sources. Heat can activate the glues used in some footwear which can weaken seams causing them to fail (this is true for all shoes and not just ours). It helps to place crumpled newspaper inside each shoe to help them dry. Remember to recycle the newspaper once the footwear is dry.
Footwear made from faux suede can be brushed for maintenance.
Shoe polish can be used on synthetic leather footwear, except faux suede and bucky, and is recommended to help prevent marks and scuffs.
Scuffs on synthetic leather shoes can be treated using water based shoe paint. Shoe paint can be found on-line or at most shoe repair stores. In most instances, shoe paint will not peel, chip or crack when applied to footwear.
To treat scuffs:
-
Clean surface on and around scuff with a damp cloth.
-
Apply two coats of shoe paint to the scuffed area per the directions provided with the shoe paint. If the color of the shoe paint does not quite match the color of the shoe it will be necessary to apply a coat of paint to the whole shoe and possibly the other shoe as well.
-
After the paint as dried, apply a coat matching or clear polish to the shoe.
Under no circumstances should spirit based shoe paint or stain remover be used on any footwear sold by Kenai Shoes. There is a good possibility that these products will alter the color of the footwear.
